Throwback to a Layout made in 2022
This layout is probably one of the busiest I’ve ever created, and it serves as the title page for my travel album documenting our 2012 trip to Boston, Washington DC, and New York. It’s a vibrant, layered introduction to the journey and sets the tone for the rest of the album.
The design is a scraplift inspired by Flora Farkas, posted by Scrap Squad, whose original layout caught my eye with its dynamic composition and storytelling potential. I spent quite a bit of time cutting and arranging a mix of travel-themed card scraps, layering all sorts of odds and ends to build up texture and movement. Despite the busy feel, the page flows beautifully from square to square, echoing the path of our trip: landing in the US, driving to Boston, continuing on to Washington DC, then heading to New York before flying home to London.
To help anchor the story visually, I included three photos that I felt captured the essence of each city. For Boston, I chose an image of the Paul Revere statue; for Washington DC, the Capitol Building; and for New York, a classic shot of yellow taxis. These images sit among the layers and help ground the page in real memories.
The titles of each city are from Jolees Boutique, and they add a bold, dimensional touch that ties everything together. It’s a layout full of energy and detail, and I love how it reflects the excitement and variety of that unforgettable trip.
